Barbara Joy Hemingway
October 13, 1933 – February 11, 2022
Barbara Joy Hemingway, beloved grandmother, GG, sister, aunt and friend to many passed away February 11, 2022, at the age of 88. Barbara was born to Melvin and Manota Atkins in Stanford, Texas on October 13, 1933 where they lived before moving to Visalia, CA. Barbara attended Visalia Elementary Schools and Visalia Union High School.
Barbara married Rudy Pina shortly after high school in Visalia, CA and to this union one daughter was born Pamela Pina. A few years after Pamela’s birth Barbara and Rudy separated. She married Richard Hemingway in 1992. Richard and Barbara enjoyed travelling and did so until his death in 2000.
Barbara had an unmatched work ethic. She held many titles in the restaurant industry. Barbara was co-owner of the Hen’s Nest, Mel’s Diner, Granny’s Pantry and B’s Café with her sister Betty Casares. Barbara also managed the restaurant at the Lamp Lighter Inn, Fosters Freeze and Tagus Ranch with Ricky Nelson.
Barbara was preceded in death by husband, Richard Hemingway, daughter, Pamela Noble, parents, Melvin and Manota Atkins, brother, Claude Atkins, sister Betty Casares and niece Tammy Atkins.
She is survived by her grandchildren Steven (Qiana) Marcom, Heather Cooper and Kyle Noble, Brothers, Wayne (Marilyn) Atkins and Dale (Janice) Atkins, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, 10:30am at Visalia Public Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Kaweah Health Hospice.
