Bill C. Martin of Fresno, CA. passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the age of 78. After months of declining health, Bill died peacefully with his beloved wife Carol and their son Scott by his side. Bill was born in Swifton, Arkansas on March 2, 1943, to father Monnie Martin and mother Ethel Martin. The youngest of four sons, Bill learned at an early age the importance of a strong work ethic, being honorable, and decent. He also learned to be tough yet witty. Bill and his family moved to Fresno in 1951 and set their roots here in the Valley. Bill graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1962 and began a long career in the grocery business working for Hanoians Market and Mayfair for over 35 years. He served as the Liquor Manager before he retired and started a second career working with his brother-in-law Don Reinero at Webster Radio. They sure were a dynamic duo, often heard affectionately bickering and bantering in front of customers. Bill met the love of his life Carol in high school. They married in 1965 and had two wonderful son’s, Scott and Brian Martin. Bill was a loving and devoted husband and a charismatic, sweet, and gentle father to his son’s. The bond they shared as a family was indestructible but when he lost his son Brian unexpectedly at the age of 43, Bill’s heart was broken beyond repair. Anyone who knew Bill knew his love for western movies (especially John Wayne), his love for cowboy boots, and cars. He was a sharp dresser who always smelled of the best cologne. But his most precious treasures were his two grandchildren, Scottie and Marissa. There is no denying how much “Papa” enjoyed being their grandfather. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Roy, Troy, and Gene Martin, and his son Brian. He is survived by his wife Carol, and son Scott and wife Sandra, and grandchildren Scottie and Marissa. Bill will be deeply missed by his many friends and his loving family. Private services will be held by the family at a later date.
