Jim C Mitchell went home to be with his Heavenly Father at the age of 86 surrounded by the wonderful caregivers and hospice at The Harvest At Fowler, in Fowler CA. He was born July 9, 1938 in Ryan Oklahoma to Clinton and Fanchion Mitchell. He grew up in Ryan and in 1957 he married June Clutz and they had three children. The family relocated to Selma CA in 1967. Jim worked many construction jobs over his adult years. In Kansas with Boeing, in Fort Worth TX with Northrup Grumman, at the County Highway Dept in Waurika OK, and as a policeman in Wichita Falls TX. After moving to California, Jim worked for Sun Maid Raisin in Kingsburg, O’Neill Meat Co. in Fresno then California Controlled Atmosphere in Dinuba were he retired in 2017. Jim’s hobby was oil painting. He painted western, native American, ocean and mountain themes. He entered his art in local county fairs where he won many awards for his paintings. Jim loved and enjoyed his family, friends and coworkers. He was known as “Papa” by his grand and great grandkids. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years June Mitchell, his parents Clinton and Fanchion Mitchell, and his sister Nelda Reynolds of Oklahoma. He is survived by his sister, Ona Ruth and brother, Lennon of Texas; His children, Jim (Cassandra) Mitchell of Washington, Nancy (Don) Steinhauer of Easton CA and Liz Specht of Easton CA; 5 grandchildren, Jimmy, Drew, Justin, Maci, and Alex; 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Washington Colony Cemetery, 7318 S Elm Ave, Fresno CA on Saturday Dec 7, at 10:30 am, followed by a celebration of Jim's life at the Fowler Presbyterian Church at 408 E Merced St. Fowler CA 93625. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you consider a contribution in his name to the Fowler Presbyterian Church.
