A native of Fresno, Calif., Joanna Lee Castiglione was born Dec. 22, 1946 to Gloria and Albert Castiglione, members of a larger Italian farming and packing family. She went to Madison Elementary and graduated from Central High School in 1964. Early in life, she left home to become a professional singer who toured the country and made records with a popular gospel group. She later attended college in Southern California and earned a nursing degree. As an RN, Joanna served at several hospitals in the region prior to joining the Trauma Center at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, where her skills as an emergency room nurse helped saved many lives.
Always full of enthusiasm and life, Joanna loved to sing, cook gourmet meals, and host lavish parties for her friends. She was a natural entertainer with a vivacious personality and a kind, generous heart.
She loved to travel in her RV, meet people, visit the ocean, play cards, and try her luck at the casino slot machines. Most of all, she enjoyed pouring over cookbooks, watching food shows, and trying out new recipes on her partner and friends.
Last, but not least, Joanne was a voracious sports fan who closely followed football, women's softball, golf and tennis. She was especially happy combining her love of sports and entertaining by hosting her annual Super Bowl parties.
Much loved, Joanna's absence will be felt by many. She, in turn, was full of love for everyone, and she made lifelong friends out of strangers she would meet everywhere she went. She called those closest to her "family," and she will always be in the hearts of those privileged enough to earn her love and friendship.
