Marie Norris Pendley of Roseville went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2016. She was born July 10, 1946, in Selma, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Pendley, her mother Ruby Norris, a nephew, Chuck Norris and a niece, Cindy Jaccard.
Marie is survived by her father Dossie Norris; her brother Charles (Joy) Norris; her sons Theron (Julie) Pendley and Wade (Karen) Pendley; several grandchildren Mercedes (John) Rasmussen, Sydney (Kurt) Russell, Bailey Pendley and Travis Wills-Pendley; three great granddaughters, Lillian Rasmussen and Willow and Chloe Russell; and three nieces Kimberly (Jerry) Curry Jones, Missy (James) Franco and April (Josh) Latham, in addition to many other family and friends.
Marie grew up in Selma where her Mother and Uncle owned the very first television store and her Dad was an ironworker. Her Dad later went on to start a steel company with Marie's brother Charles.
Marie married her husband Bob on March 15, 1962. She went on to receive her Associates Degree and they had their two sons Theron and Wade while still in Selma. On a trip to Arkansas to visit family in 1974, Bob and Marie toured around and made the decision to relocate their sons to Little Rock for schooling. While in Little Rock, Marie became the Deaf Coordinator and led services each Sunday at First Baptist Church. In 1982, Bob and Marie moved back to Selma and opened the Bob Pendley Floor Covering store, and this is when Marie started working part-time at the Selma's First Baptist Church. She later went on to lead the entire Children's Ministry and touched hundreds of lives over the next 15 years. Bob and Marie retired in Selma and Bob passed away in 2004.
Marie or Nanie, Miss Marie, Aunt Ree or just Ree as her grandkids, family and friends like to refer to her, eventually relocated to Roseville in 2011 and once again became very active in her local church, Bayside Blue Oaks. She helped sew dresses out of pillowcases for the Dress A Girl Around the World Ministry, which sends dresses to girls around the globe in need. She also loved quilting and volunteered many hours each week at the church's Call Center Ministry despite being bound to her wheelchair. Her tireless work was recently recognized when she was honored as one of Bayside's "Unsung Heroes" with a video tribute during their services. Additionally, Marie led Bible studies at the church and in her home each week. There is no telling how many people were led to Christ or discipled by "Miss Marie." Services will be held Friday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m., under the direction of Thomas-Marcom Funeral Home at the Selma First Baptist Church, which is located at 2025 Grant Street, with lunch provided by the church following the ceremony. Rev. J. Craig Statton will officiate the service and memorials may be made to Compassion International at www.compassion.com.
