It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Valenzuela of Selma, CA, on August 20, 2023. Mike was born to his loving father, Paul Valenzuela Sr., and his mother, Louise Pampion.
Mike graduated from Selma High School then pursued his studies in Criminology at Fresno City College and graduated from the Police Academy. He started his career with the Fresno County Probation Department as Juvenile Correctional Officer l and was soon promoted to Juvenile Correctional Officer ll. Mike’s journey with law enforcement was marked by numerous achievements and a passion for service as he went on to become an Instructor of Master Baton and pepper spray. He was one of the only Juvenile Correction Officers that was a Range Master in the district. Mike was the first Transport Officer to carry a gun. He had over 10 years of transportation assignments as security for the clinic area, court runner, and he took on other various duties for the Juvenile Probation Department until his retirement in 2017 after 25 years of service.
Mike is survived and will be missed dearly by his daughter, Kassandra Zamora; his father, Paul Valenzuela Sr.; and stepmother, Cecilia. His mother, Louise Pampion; sister, Roxanne Cordero and her husband George; brother, Paul Valenzuela Jr. and his wife Elsa; and brother, John Valenzuela. In addition, his stepbrother Joe Garcia and stepsisters Rozi Garcia and Trini Garcia. Mike was preceded in death by stepbrother Julian Garcia. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends he considered family.
Mike will be remembered most as being a big kid at heart with his love for Star Wars, Marvel, and his Raiders. He was a collector of comic books, Marvel cards and figurines, swords, and his most loved Darth Vader helmets. Mike was a talented artist; he would pick up any piece of scratch paper and happily sketch his beloved Marvel heroes and villain characters.
With a heart full of memories, we will remember Mike as a proud dad, a loving son, a caring brother, and a faithful friend. As we say our farewells, we hold onto the joy he brought into our lives and the legacy he leaves behind.
